Sandwich 4, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: Molly MacFarland scored her first two varsity goals and the Blue Knights fought off an inspired effort from the Dolphins early on in East Sandwich.

MacFarland broke a scoreless tie midway through the opening half from senior captain Becca Mandy and Sandwich (6-0-1, 3-0 ACL) took a 1-0 lead to the break.

Staci Hopkins converted a cross from Julia Hanson to double the score early in the second half and MacFarland followed with her second of the afternoon from twin sister Sara to make it 3-0.

Mandy tallied tallied with 10 minutes left to complete the scoring and Halle Tickell recorded her fifth shutout for the Blue Knights.

Senior Olivia Horman and sophomore Kate Evans excelled for Sandwich in the win.

D-Y falls to 2-5 and 0-4 in the ACL.

 


Blue Knights Battle to a Scoreless Tie to Barnstable

Sandwich 0, Barnstable 0: In a battle between teams that are at opposite ends of the standings, the Blue Knights and Red Raiders battled to a scoreless tie in Hyannis.

Sandwich (5-0-1) dominated field position, but Barnstable (1-6-1) packed in its defense and relied on the stellar play of goalie Mia Crawley to keep the visitors off the board and earn the Raiders a point.

Sandwich had a golden chance to score on a centering pass to Sarah McFarland, but her header sailed just over the bar. Besides McFarland, also playing well for Sandwich were her sister Molly, who was making her first varsity start, Haley Whelan and Becca Mandy.

Sandwich 3, Falmouth 0: Three seniors netted goals for the Blue Knights while sophomore Halle Tickell earned her third shutout of the season in Atlantic Coast League action in East Sandwich.

Stacy Hopkins, a senior, knocked home a cross from senior captain Bella Collentro 32 minutes in to stake Sandwich (5-0, 2-0 ACL) to a 1-0 lead at the half.

Megan Forrester, another Blue Knights senior, doubled the lead 13 minutes after the break off a cross from sophomore Sara MacFarland before senior Rae LaRochelle, off a pass from senior captain Becca Mandy, iced the game later in the half.

Tickell recorded eight stops en route to her third shutout of the season while getting strong defensive support from seniors Hailey Whalen and Liz Wegman, junior Olivia Horman and sophomore Katie Evans.

Falmouth is 3-4, 0-2 in the league.

 NORTH EASTHAM - Senior captain Becca Mandy knocked a direct kick off the right post and into the Nauset goal in the final minute, giving the Sandwich Blue Knights a 2-1 win over the Warriors on Thursday evening.

Mandy's goal in the Atlantic Coast League opener spoiled the first of two Homecoming soccer games for Nauset, as the boys hosted Sandwich immediately after. 

Junior Marielle McEnaney struck first for the Warriors (2-2-1, 0-1 ACL), scoring off a cross from junior Katya Thorup in the 23rd minute.

Sophomore Sarah McFarland then knotted the game at 1-all for Sandwich (4-0, 1-0 ACL) just eight minutes into the second half, sending home a penalty kick after being taken down inside the Nauset box.

Mandy then won it with a shot from the left side off the far right post on a direct kick with 20 seconds left.

Halle Tickell was strong in goal, as the sophomore netminder has allowed just two goals on the young season. Tickell got strong defensive support from seniors Hailey Whelan, Bella Collentro and Liz Wegman. Wegman left late with an injury, with sophomore Amanda Karch filling in well.


Blue Knights JV take down Nauset

The JV Blue Knight beat Nauset 2 - 0. The Knights came out early and strong scoring at the fourth minute.  Jocelyn Lavelle fed the ball through the Nauset midfield setting up Carly Lansing. The knight continued to pressure and Maddie Wojciechowski scored with just ten minutes to play in the first half.

the Knights played very strong defensively throughout the second half with Leah Mahoney getting her second shutout of the season.


Blue Knights JV Blanks Carver

The JV Girls took control from the first half whistle preasuring Carver.  They created lots of scoring opportunities from Maddie Wojciechwski, Alli Tuden, Jocelyn Lavelle and Naalie Corsini. Also helping to keep the pressure on was Jeanna Mahan and Brittany Eccleston. 

Just two minutes into the second half Jacquelyn Beaulieu punched one in giving the Knight a 1 - 0 lead.  Just two minutes latter Jax scored her second of the match. With the Knights pressuring Carly Lansing drilled one home.  Kamryn Jones finished the day with a hard shot that beat the Carver keeper.

the entire defense played a great game only allowing three shots on keeper Leah Mahoney who posted her first shutout of the season.


Second half surge lead Blue Knights over Carver

 EAST SANDWICH - The Sandwich Blue Knights used a pair of second half goals to overtake Carver 3-1 and remain unbeaten on Tuesday afternoon at DeConto Stadium.

Sara McFarland knocked home a pass from Stacy Hopkins to give Sandwich (3-0) a 2-1 lead 11 minutes into the second half, with Julia Hanson sending home a rebound off a corner kick 29 minutes after the half.

Hopkins knotted things at 1- all in the 26th minute of the match, scoring on a cross from Katie Hughes just two minutes after Carver had broken the ice.

The Blue Knights got strong play from Bella Collentro and Hailey Whalen on defense and Rae LaRochelle up front.

 


Girls soccer: Knights blank Red Raiders

 EAST SANDWICH The Sandwich Blue Knights girls soccer team scored twice in a four-minute span in the opening half, improving to 2-0 on the young season with a 3-0 win over the Barnstable Red Raiders on Monday.

Sara McFarland sent a cross into Stacy Hopkins, who knocked home the goal 24 minutes in. Bella Collentro doubled the lead just four minutes later, finishing off a corner kick from fellow senior captain Becca Mandy for a 2-0 advantage.

Rae LaRochelle added onto that lead, collecting a pass from Hopkins and scoring for a 3-0 lead just three minutes after the half.

Sophomore Halle Tickell earned her second shutout of the young season while Mari Curry went into goal late and made a big stop late to preserve the clean sheet.

Defense was key for the Blue Knights, with seniors Liz Wegman and Hailey Whelan, junior Olivia Horman and sophomore Kate Evans.

Molly McFarland also provided strong play off the bench for Sandwich, which is off until next Tuesday when they host Carver.

Barnstable pulled together as a team in the second half, playing an improved half, but still ended up on the wrong side of the score.
